Qatar Airways has taken the resolution not to progress with its preplanned passive financial venture in American Airlines.
The Middle Eastern carrier had planned to take a ten per cent investment in the oneworld airline.
American Airlines had endorsed Qatar Airways to renege the move.
American carriers, including Delta Air Lines and United, have a long running dissension with carriers based in the Middle East about the function of state support for their operations.
Qatar Airways explained in a communique: “Further appraisal of the proposed financial assets, taking into account the latest public divulgence of American Airlines, has proved that the investment no longer meets our targets.
“Qatar Airways won't stop to scrutinize makeshift investment opportunities in the United States of America and elsewhere that do meet our objectives.
“Qatar Airways will continue to seek opportunities to stock in global aviation to support the airline’s goal to offer the best possible travel adventure for its customers.”
Qatar Airways controls a 20 per cent stake in oneworld partner International Airlines Group, owner of British Airways and Iberia, as well as a 10 per cent state in LATAM.
